Dragpool

Our second Bin Isolation Outing shenanigans…Β  Meet….. Dragpool!

This is what you get when you combine my Deadpool cosplay with a feathered headdress I bought from the lovely Jessica from Drag Bingo…. mixed with bellydance gear.Β  Coz, you know…. go hard or go home really πŸ˜› πŸ˜€Β  (And I am home… so…..)

Excuse my hole…. πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜›

Also my poor postie is probably traumatised…
He totally chose the wrong (or right!) time to do his run of our street πŸ˜€

When your bins go out more than you do….

So obviously we’re allΒ  staying home due to the plagueΒ  sworn an oath of solitude until the pestilence is purged from the land! … which is fine – I’m a social recluse gamer type…. staying in my house doing nothing, and avoiding social contact where at all possible, is something I excel in! – I’ve been practicing for this my whole life πŸ˜›

But a friend on facebook introduced me to a group (Bin Isolation Outings) where insane people like me, get dressed up in weird stuff (or sometimes fancy stuff) to take the bins out (and bring them in)…. just to entertain themselves and others.

Well obviously, as cosplayers and generally weirdos – we had to do it!

Week 1, MiniObsi and I decided we’d do Star Wars…..

Twi’lek Jedi

Finally had another chance to get out the Lekku

We (Rebel Legion) trooped at the Lynbrook lantern festival – which was fun – Sabers looked great in the dark! We had a heap of kids lining up to get photos with us.

It’s so lovely to see them so excited to have photos with us or be lucky enough to hold one of our sabers Especially the ones who are too shy to come over, but once you offer them the saber their faces light up (literally and figuratively lol)

Fangirling

I was at a Hatter thing in the city and as we were walking down a lane I recognised the name of the building we were passing… the Majorca building.

I’d googled the “Insula” building from the Corinna Chapman books once to see if it was a real building, and google told me it was inspired by the Majorca building – So Catherine (Who got me only to be books) and I had a *Squee* moment πŸ™‚

2017 Yearly Catch Up

Haven’t blogged in ages, so here’s a yearly catch up in the one post πŸ™‚

Bought a new car, and as per our agreement, in the last week before we got rid of the old car – I was allowed to put car eyelashes on it πŸ˜€
(Hubs had refused to let me put them on the car πŸ˜› )

Mini had their very first ever haircut!

Keeping a “Padawan braid”Β  πŸ˜€

Mini & dressed up for a unicorn day at Dandenong Market

Mini rocked it for Diversity week at school

MrObsi and I went on a Goblin Ball River Cruise

Come to the Dark Side – We have Chocolate Eggs!

We’re not really big on celebrating easter, and we’ve never done the easter bunny, but we do normally do a hunt.Β  When Mini got old enough, we started doing clue based hunts instead of just hunting for eggs.Β  This year MrObsi Eggcelled himself with an eggstra special and most eggcellent easter egg hunt eggver! πŸ˜‰

I wondered why he kicked me out of the lounge room for a a while – I thought it was because he was hiding stuff in the lounge.Β  But no, he had other plans!

It started with MiniObsi being handed (my) Stormtrooper Pez.Β  Inside was a message!

“Imperial spies have gathered intelligence about where various rebels are hiding.Β  We must find them before they make contact with their command centre.”

Rebel Legion

The Rebel Legion is basically a costume group that does charity work.Β  Who dress up in screen accurate Star Wars costumes (for the good guys only), and normally it’s done at events where they help raise money for charity.Β Β  We’d seen the Rebel Legion stand at PAX and OzComic Con, and were keen to join – as I love Star Wars, I love cosplay and if it’s also helping charity then that’s a bonus!

But it took us a while to source the right fabrics and gear for our costumes.Β  Finances were a bit tight, and we needed to buy belts, boots, food capsules, pouches as well as the fabrics to make our outfits.Β  Finally though we got our costumes made and we’re now members – woo!

I made the lightsaber from a torch – It’s a temporary one until I can justify the expense of buying another saber, as my ultrasabers one has a blade that is too short, and with the cost of shipping I may as well buy a whole new saber that will look better, than just buy a new blade)

Our first troop was for a KidsFlix, where we (plus a bunch of Disney princesses and other cosplayers) entertained kids waiting to go into the movies πŸ™‚

PAX 2015 – Sunday

dscn1110Sunday MiniObsi joined us, so we all went with a Superhero/Supervillain type theme.

Mini was a Steampunk Harley Quinn, I was Lady Ironman and MrObsi was a Steampunk Gambit.

We made Mini’s mallet from foam and cardboard, with a fabric roll handle πŸ˜€Β  We attached painted sheets of paper to the mallet and stuck painted faux pearl stickers on there to look like rivets.Β  It ended up being pretty light (important when having to carry it around all day)

PAX 2015 – Saturday

dscn0963Saturday was our Dr Who day this year.

Another ebay costume πŸ™‚Β  I got a plain blue corset from ebay and added in the window panels.Β  You can’t really tell but the little top hat has a light in the top (finger-lights that I got from ebay).Β  The blue skirt and gloves were also from there – but the black top and black skirt are bellydance costume bits I already had.

We found some other Whovians to be photographed with too!

PAX 2015 – Friday

dscn0836bNormally we do a Steampunk day but we decided we’d do something different and we wanted to do a Firefly cosplay, but we were on an extreme budget!Β  And had trouble finding costume bits (cheaply).Β Β  I’d been having trouble finding the overalls Kaylee wears (especially in a size to fit me) and I’m not really built for dressing up as anyone else.

In the end we decided a Hawaiian shirt with dinosaurs in the pockets (and his firefly dino tshirt under) for hubby to be Wash, and I fashioned a stupid Inara outfit from stuff I already had, plus a discount store wig πŸ˜›

So it was a bit of a crappy costume 😦

Lady Iron Man

PAX time again!Β Β  This year I decided I wanted to do a female Iron Man costume.Β  I was inspired by these Here & Here – because let’s face it, I’m not built for wearing anything like actual armour, and it seemed fun to make a sort of Victorian lady inspired version.Β  (Hubby decided to do a steampunkish Gambit to go with mine)

So….. While it’s actually a really simple costume I am proud of how it all came together!

dscn1126

I was going to have a go at making my own arc reactor and building it into the corset, but I ended up finding a battery powered one on ebay for $20, and I figured that was the easier route as I’ve not yet done any LED work myself and that seems scary πŸ˜›Β Β  It’s got a hook on the top so I just use a nappy pin to attach it to the corset.Β  Easy πŸ˜€

I bought 2 masks, as I wanted to do the mask-on-a-stick masquerade thing – because I thought it would be more unique and more comfortable, but also I flirted with the idea of a wearable mask for convenience and the other mask I bought has a lift-up faceplate… which you know, can let me eat and breathe and suchΒ  (it was also bigger and fit a bit better).Β  But since the stick I bought to attach it to (which was from a cat toy) had plastic end caps that came off, I managed to glue the cap to the mask, that allowed me to wear the mask as a mask, or put it on the stick.

dscn0715Although since I was restricted to where I could attach it (due to the shape of the mask) it’s not in an ideal position for wearing, as I have to lean forward a bit or jam my arm into my chest to make it work, but anyway…

With some false eyelashes and gold braid, it becomes….

dscn1272

For the corset I got gold lycra I happened to have, and I made myself a top to wear under it, and cut strips out to sew into the corset panels to approximate some of the armour panels.

dscn0713

After searching online for some sort of small light thing I could use for my hand repulsors (I’ve seen a lot of people using those round night-light things, but those are HUGE compared to a hand…….Β Β  I eventually found these!Β  Except I ended up finding cheaper ones on ebay πŸ˜‰ (on ebay they are selling them as dog collar lights!)

gsbc_feature_06_l

They are 2 half-domes of clear plastic with an LED light, which you simply press to turn them on and off (they do have flashing modes too).Β  They even have a starburst type pattern in them – woot!Β Β Β  Taking the dome-halves apart you can take out the hook part, leaving just a plain sphere. So what I did was cut a small hole in the gloves (ebay again) and put the light together sandwiching the glove inside.Β  If that makes sense.Β  To turn them on/off I just press my palms together!

dscn0707

With a couple of skirts (also from ebay), and a little top hat (again, ebay :D), a wig (ebay, what a surprise) and an op-shop necklace that was gold and orange that I painted red with nail polishΒ  we have….

dscn1127dscn1126

Lady Iron Man… or Iron Maiden as a friend called me πŸ˜€
(Not the Iron Lady, as that’s Margaret Thatcher :P)

— edit —

I wore the same costume again for PAX 2016, but with the mask that had the liftup faceplate.Β  Holding the masquerade mask all day was annoying and that mask was a bit too small and left a mark on my forehead.Β  So the larger mask with the faceplate was MUCH more comfortable!Β  I added the gold braid trim and false eyelashes to that mask as well

dscn4937

It also let me breathe when it got hot πŸ™‚

dscn4976

PAX 2017 I added some gold half gloves, but also I stupidly wore a black top under the gold one, and it is too visible and spoiled the look

Star Wars Birthday!

I decided to throw myself a Star Wars themed birthday party…. a bit of a spur of the moment thing, and there were just the 3 of us , so it’s not terribly grand, but it made me smile πŸ˜€

dscn6228

(yes, there are peas in the penne alla arrabbiata!)

I used my milennium falcon cookie cutter to cut the pizza dough for the pizzas (but you lose the shape on they are cooked).Β  I actually detest rockmelon (I call it “stinkymelon” because the smell makes me feel sick).Β  But it was perfect for making a Death Star, so I had to have it!

My “cake” was the chocolate Millenium Falcon – it’s “Obsi Road”!Β  (A friend says I can’t call it rocky road because it doesn’t have nuts in it and that’s not right :P) Basically I put some chocolate into the mold, then I mix marshmallows, ricebubbles, a bit of butter or coconut oil and cardamon seeds together with the remaining chocolate and pour that in.Β  Makes an AWESOME rocky road thing.Β  The rice bubbles give it a bit of crunch (hubby doesn’t eat nuts), and I love the pop of cardamon you get when you find a seed.

PAX – Sunday

Originally we were going to do Steampunk costumes on Sunday, but we were tired and I wanted to wear comfy shoes and didn’t want to wear a corset (and I don’t have a suitable non-corset top for the outfit)… so we decided to just go jeans and a t-shirt for the Sunday.Β  But MiniObsi went as Link…. wearing MrObsi’s Link tunic, the shield backpack I made, a dodgy plastic sword we had lying around and I made a Navi from a polystyrene ball πŸ™‚

PAX! – Friday

Friday – With the bigger venue and more people, we worried we wouldn’t get parking, but there was plenty, so that was great.Β  The building was bigger, so there was more room and it didn’t feel cramped.Β  Much better than last year!

Dscn4358Β  Dscn4359

Queue line crowd.Β  I liked the addition of the holes in the signs.Β  Last year I think they just had PAX signs and people were trying to hit the balls over them.Β  This time they made it into a proper game πŸ™‚

I spent half the queue time sewing the buttons onto MrObsi’s coat though πŸ™‚ That’s how “last minute” the costuming was πŸ˜›
